This feriepenger calculator is for employees in Norway, including people who have moved there from the UK, who want to check the holiday pay due in 2026 on pay earned in 2025. It applies the minimum rates in the Norwegian Holiday Act, adds the extra percentage for workers aged 60 or over with the 6G cap, and shows the result in kroner. Unlike most annual leave systems, Norway pays holiday money a year after you earn it, which is what confuses most newcomers. Figures checked October 2026.

Quick answer: Feriepenger are at least 10.2% of the pay you earned last year, or 12% if you have five weeks of holiday by agreement. Workers aged 60 or over get another 2.3% on pay up to 6G, NOK 819,294 in 2026. This feriepenger calculator shows that NOK 560,000 at 12% gives NOK 67,200.

How the Norway Holiday Pay Calculator works: last year's pay and holiday rules in, feriepenger out.

What Are Feriepenger?

Feriepenger are Norwegian holiday pay: money set aside from what you earn in one calendar year and paid out the next year to replace your salary while you are on holiday. Arbeidstilsynet, the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, says the minimum is 10.2% of the holiday pay basis, rising to 12% where a collective agreement gives five weeks off, and to 12.5% or 14.3% for workers aged 60 or over.

The formula in plain words: feriepenger = feriepengegrunnlag × rate, plus, if you are 60 or over, 2.3% × the lower of your basis or 6G. The basis is the pay you earned for work in the previous year, including overtime and performance bonuses, but not the holiday pay you received that year or expense refunds.

How Much Holiday Pay Will I Get in Norway?

You will get 10.2% or 12% of last year's earned pay, which for most full time workers is a little more than one month's gross salary. Take Daniel, a British engineer in Stavanger who earned NOK 720,000 in 2025, excluding the holiday pay he was paid that summer. His employer's agreement gives five weeks, so the rate is 12% and his feriepenger in June 2026 are NOK 86,400. That is NOK 17,280 for each of his five weeks off. Now take Hilde, who turns 61 in 2026 and earned NOK 900,000. She gets 12% of NOK 900,000, which is NOK 108,000, plus 2.3% of the 6G cap of NOK 819,294, which is NOK 18,843.76, giving NOK 126,843.76 in total.

How to Use the Feriepenger Calculator

Step 1: Enter Your Holiday Pay Basis

Find "feriepengegrunnlag" on your December payslip or your year end statement for 2025. If you only know your salary, use your gross pay for the year minus the feriepenger you were paid in 2025, because last year's holiday pay does not earn new holiday pay.

Step 1: enter last year's holiday pay basis in NOK

Step 2: Choose Your Entitlement and Age

Pick 10.2% if you have the legal minimum of four weeks and one day, or 12% if your contract or tariff agreement gives five weeks, which is common. Tick the 60+ box if you turn 60 during 2026. The G field holds NOK 136,549, the value Skatteetaten reports from 1 May 2026, and you can change it to the G your payroll uses.

Step 2: choose 10.2% or 12% and tick the 60+ option

Step 3: Add Your Normal Monthly Pay

This field does not change your feriepenger. It lets the tool compare the payout with one ordinary month, which answers the common question of whether June will feel richer or poorer than usual.

Step 3: enter your normal monthly pay for the comparison

Step 4: Read Your Feriepenger

The headline is your total holiday pay, with the ordinary part, the 60+ supplement, the amount per holiday week and the monthly comparison. If you also worked in the UK last year, the UK holiday pay calculator shows how British statutory holiday pay works, which is paid as you go rather than a year later.

Step 4: read your feriepenger and the rate comparison table

Feriepenger Rates in Norway for 2026

SituationRateOn NOK 500,000On NOK 900,000
Statutory, 4 weeks and 1 day10.2%NOK 51,000NOK 91,800

Five weeks, aged 60 or over12% + 2.3% up to 6GNOK 71,500NOK 126,844

On NOK 500,000 the 60+ rates work out at exactly 12.5% and 14.3%. On NOK 900,000 the supplement stops at 6G, so the effective rate is lower. Compare this with the Dutch approach in the Netherlands holiday allowance calculator, where at least 8% of the past year's gross wages is usually paid in May or June.

What Counts in the Holiday Pay Basis?

The holiday pay basis counts pay you earned for work done in the previous calendar year, so getting it right matters more than the percentage. Arbeidstilsynet lists what goes in and what stays out:

  • In: salary, hourly pay and overtime earned for your work.
  • In: bonuses and commission paid in recognition of your personal work effort.
  • Out: the feriepenger you were paid during that year.
  • Out: travel and accommodation refunds and similar expense payments.
  • Out: payments made as a share of net proceeds.

A refund of costs therefore will not raise your feriepenger, while regular overtime will. If your payslip figure looks low, compare it with your total 2025 earnings minus last summer's holiday pay.

Is June Really a Tax Free Month in Norway?

Partly: no tax is normally withheld on feriepenger paid in the year after they were earned, which is why June often looks tax free, but the income is still taxable and is collected through your other monthly withholding. Skatteetaten's employer guidance also says the 2.3% supplement for workers aged 60 or over is subject to withholding, so Hilde will see tax taken from her NOK 18,843.76. Because feriepenger replace your salary for the weeks you are off, June pay is not simply a bonus on top of normal pay.

What If I Started or Left a Job Last Year?

If you started work in Norway during 2025, your basis only covers the months you worked, so your 2026 feriepenger will be smaller and some of your holiday may be unpaid. If you leave a job, Arbeidstilsynet says earned holiday pay must be paid on the last ordinary payday before you leave.

People moving to Norway from Britain can find registration and tax card steps in the UK government's guide to living in Norway, and should sort them out before the first payslip, because the tax card decides how much is withheld from every other month.

Norway Holiday Pay Terms You Should Know

These Norwegian employment terms explain how feriepenger are earned and paid, so you can check results from the Norway holiday pay calculator against your payslip.

Feriepenger
Norwegian holiday pay, built up as a percentage of earnings in one calendar year and paid the following year in place of ordinary salary during holiday. Newcomers often have little or none in their first year because nothing was earned the year before.
Feriepengegrunnlag
The holiday pay basis, the earnings from the previous year on which feriepenger are calculated. It covers pay for work done, including overtime and performance pay, but leaves out holiday pay itself and reimbursed expenses.
Grunnbeløp
The basic amount, written as G, a figure adjusted each year that the Norwegian state uses to set many benefit levels and caps. For holiday pay, a multiple of G limits the extra percentage paid to older workers.
Holiday Act
The Norwegian law, ferieloven, that guarantees employees a minimum amount of annual holiday and minimum holiday pay rates. Contracts and collective agreements may offer more generous terms, but never less than the act requires.
Arbeidstilsynet
The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, the government agency that supervises working conditions and publishes guidance on employment rules, including holiday entitlement and holiday pay. It is a reliable source for checking minimum rights.
Tariff agreement
A collective agreement, tariffavtale in Norwegian, negotiated between unions and employers for a sector or company. Many give five weeks of holiday, which raises the holiday pay percentage above the statutory minimum.
