Gothic text is made of real Unicode characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols and Letterlike Symbols blocks, not a font file, so it pastes anywhere that accepts text. Fraktur has no numbers of its own, so plain Fraktur keeps normal digits. Favourites are saved only in this browser. Screen readers may read each letter by its long Unicode name, so keep key details in plain text.

This free gothic font generator turns plain words into 22 Fraktur, Old English, blackletter, script and framed gothic styles for anyone styling an Instagram bio, TikTok profile, Discord name, gamer tag or message. Every style uses real characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block of Unicode, so the result stays gothic wherever you paste it. It also counts characters against bio limits, lets you star favourite styles, shows the code point behind each letter and turns gothic text back into normal letters.

Quick answer: A gothic font generator swaps each letter for its Unicode Fraktur twin, so "Gothic" becomes π”Šπ”¬π”±π”₯𝔦𝔠 or, in bold, π•²π–”π–™π–π–Žπ–ˆ. The letter count stays the same, but each gothic letter uses 2 UTF-16 units. Five plain Fraktur capitals, β„ β„Œ β„‘ β„œ ℨ, come from the older Letterlike Symbols block instead.

What Is a Gothic Font Generator?

A gothic font generator is a text tool that rewrites ordinary letters as Unicode blackletter characters, the angular style also called Fraktur or Old English. It does not install a font. It replaces each character with a different one that is drawn in a gothic shape, which is why the look survives copying between apps.

The method in plain words is: take each letter, look up its position in the alphabet, and add that position to the starting code point of the chosen style. Capital A in Fraktur is U+1D504, so capital B is U+1D505 and so on, with five capitals redirected to older code points. Accented letters keep their accent on top of the gothic base letter, while numbers in plain Fraktur, punctuation and emoji stay unchanged because Unicode has no gothic versions of them. Framed styles then add symbols such as ✠ or ☾ around the result.

How to Use the Gothic Font Generator

Step 1: Type Your Text

Type or paste up to 500 characters into the box. All 22 gothic styles update live as you type, so you can test a band name, a gamer tag, a tattoo idea or a bio line and compare every version on one screen.

Step 1: type your text into the gothic font generator

Step 2: Choose a Case, Filter and Preview

Pick As typed, Title Case, lower or UPPER. Fraktur capitals are ornate and hard to read in a row, so Title Case usually looks best. Use the chips to show only Fraktur, Script or Framed styles, tap the star on any card to pin it to the top and the Favourites chip to see only your picks. Switch the preview to Dark to judge how a style looks on a dark profile.

Step 2: choose a letter case, filter the gothic styles and switch to a dark preview

Step 3: Copy a Style and Check the Limits

Press Copy on any card and the button changes to Copied. The selected style then shows its true character count, its UTF-16 length, its Letterlike letters and the code point of each character, checked against Instagram, TikTok and Discord limits. For a slanted rather than gothic look, the italic text generator works the same way with italic and bold italic letters.

Step 3: copy a gothic style and check the Instagram, TikTok and Discord limits and code points

Step 4: Decode Gothic Text Back to Plain Letters

Paste any Fraktur, script, double struck or framed text into the decoder and it returns plain letters you can search or edit. It removes frame symbols, strike marks and underlines, and the spaced letters option joins letters back into words. The sample ✠ π”Šπ”¬π”±π”₯𝔦𝔠 β„π”žπ”°π”±π”©π”’ ✠ decodes to "Gothic Castle".

Why Do Some Gothic Letters Look Different?

Some gothic letters look slightly different because plain Fraktur C, H, I, R and Z are not in the maths block at all. Mathematicians already used β„œ for the real part and β„‘ for the imaginary part of a number, so Unicode encoded those five capitals years earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block (U+2100 to U+214F) and left matching gaps in the newer block. The same applies to several script letters, such as ℬ, β„° and β„―, and to double struck β„‚, β„• and ℝ.

Because those letters come from a different block, some fonts draw them a little heavier, lighter or taller than their neighbours. Bold Fraktur and bold script have no gaps, so every letter comes from one block and the weight stays even. The tool counts Letterlike letters for each style so you can switch to a bold style if the mix bothers you.

Worked example: Daniel wants "Raven Hall" as a Discord display name, which allows 32 characters. In plain Fraktur it is β„œπ”žπ”³π”’π”« β„Œπ”žπ”©π”©: 10 characters, 17 UTF-16 units, with R and H taken from Letterlike Symbols. Bold Fraktur gives π•½π–†π–›π–Šπ–“ 𝕳𝖆𝖑𝖑 at 10 characters and 19 units. The Shaded frame adds 8 symbols for 18 characters, so every option still fits.

What Is the Gothic Font Called?

The gothic font is properly called blackletter, and the copy and paste version is Fraktur, the only blackletter family that Unicode encodes. Old English, gothic script and Gothic text are everyday names for the same look. They describe lettering, not the Old English language, so a gothic font generator changes how words look but never translates them.

Blackletter grew from the dense, angular hands of medieval scribes working on Bibles and legal records across Europe, and the history of blackletter runs from the Textura type of the Gutenberg Bible in the 1450s to Fraktur, which stayed standard in German printing until 1941. Textura, Rotunda and Schwabacher are other blackletter families, but they exist only as font files. If you need gothic text in Microsoft Word, choose an installed blackletter font such as Old English Text MT instead of pasting Unicode letters.

Can I Use Gothic Fonts on Instagram, TikTok and Discord?

Yes, gothic letters work in Instagram bios, TikTok bios and Discord display names on any recent phone or computer, because they are standard Unicode characters with wide font support. Each letter still counts as one character in most apps, so the limits below apply almost exactly as they do for plain text.

  • Instagram bios allow 150 characters, enough for a full sentence in any letter style.
  • TikTok bios allow 80 characters, so keep framed and spaced styles for short phrases.
  • Discord display names allow 32 characters, which suits one or two gothic words.
  • Usernames and handles on Instagram, TikTok, X and Discord accept plain letters, numbers and a few symbols only, so gothic letters belong in display names and bios, not handles.
  • Search inside apps matches plain letters, so keep your real name somewhere on the profile in plain text.

To add a darker, distorted edge, run a short word through the glitch text generator and keep the rest of the name in gothic letters. Limits checked October 2026.

How Do I Get Gothic Letters on My Phone?

The quickest way to get gothic letters on a phone is to type in this gothic font generator, press Copy and paste into the app, because phone keyboards have no Fraktur layout. It works the same on iPhone and Android, in any browser.

If you reuse one gothic phrase often, save it as a shortcut. On an iPhone, open Settings, General, Keyboard, Text Replacement, paste the gothic text as the phrase and type a short code such as "gname". On Android with Gboard, add it to the personal dictionary with a shortcut. Typing the code then inserts the full gothic phrase anywhere.

Should I Use Gothic Text for a Tattoo or Logo?

Use gothic Unicode text to try ideas for a tattoo or logo, then make the final design with a licensed blackletter font file. Unicode letters are drawn by whatever font each device has, so the same text can look different on another phone, and many fonts are not licensed for commercial logos.

Before you commit, paste your chosen version into the decoder to confirm the spelling, since ornate Fraktur letters such as 𝔨, 𝔱 and 𝔡 are easy to misread. Print it at the real size and check it in Title Case, which is far easier to read than a row of gothic capitals.

Is Gothic Text Bad for Accessibility?

Gothic text can be hard for screen reader users, because the software may announce each character by its full Unicode name, such as "mathematical fraktur capital G", or skip it. The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative explains why content should work with assistive technology, so use gothic letters as decoration and keep links, prices, dates and contact details in plain text.

Gothic letters are not the only way to stand out. For a decorative look that is not gothic, the weird font generator offers alien and flipped letters, and the small text generator makes tiny caps. To fix capitals before styling, run your text through the case converter, then come back here. All of these tools run in your browser and never upload what you type. Content checked October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the gothic font called?

The gothic font is called blackletter, and the copy and paste version is Fraktur, which Unicode encodes in regular and bold weights. People also call it Old English or gothic script. In Microsoft Word the nearest installed font is usually Old English Text MT.

Is this gothic font generator free and safe?

Yes. This gothic font generator is free and runs entirely in your browser, so your text is never uploaded or stored. Favourites are saved only on your device, and the output is ordinary Unicode text with no code or tracking.

Why are C, H, I, R and Z different in Fraktur?

Plain Fraktur C, H, I, R and Z live in the Letterlike Symbols block (U+2100 to U+214F), not the maths block, because Unicode encoded them earlier for maths. Some fonts draw them slightly differently, while bold Fraktur keeps all 26 capitals in one block.

Can I use gothic letters in my Instagram bio or username?

You can use gothic letters in your Instagram bio, which allows 150 characters, and in your display name. Instagram usernames only accept plain letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, so gothic characters are rejected there. Framed styles add about 4 to 8 characters.

Why don't numbers change in gothic text?

Unicode has no regular Fraktur digits, so numbers stay plain in the Fraktur style. Bold Fraktur and bold script use mathematical bold digits such as πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ”, and double struck uses outline digits such as 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞. Punctuation and emoji always stay unchanged.

Why does gothic text show as boxes?

Boxes appear when a device has no font containing that character. Fraktur letters display on almost all phones and computers made since about 2015, but decorations such as the Javanese and wings frames may still show empty squares on older systems.
